After a couple of years working for Paris fashion houses, Perry Haines has launched himself into such diverse projects as styling fashion spreads for the Evening Standard, co-editing i-D magazine and helping some of the major bands develop their 'look'. Here are his personal comments on style.

The newest arrivals to prominence (though as they'll point out by no means a spin-off) are Duran Duran, a Birmingham group dedicated to letting the good times roll. Looking for an escape? Well here's a fairy story as retold by Jane Headley.

The name's not new, but the line-up that produced 'Vienna' has close ties with the new movement. Two of its members are also in Visage and the band headlined Steve Strange's People's Palace Party on St Valentine's Day. Terence Eaton studies the association.

i-D is a fashion magazine which in only two issues has developed a reputation for capturing new fashions as they first appear on the streets and not on the fashion-house drawing boards. We asked the team who produce this independent magazine to take two pages and show us how.
