The Sunday Times Magazine June 19, 1977

Theres a lot of sex this week but you can always
skip straight to Great Cars. Even healthier,
theres a centenary feature on Wimbledon, full of
clean, outdoor fun. As for the s-x, Mrs Whitehouse
starts it off by telling Lifespan how she first
learned the facts of life. Lord Longford also
gives us the benefit of his great experience on
sexual matters. The feature on Swaziland is
not as naughty as it looks, however.
Swaziland is virtually surrounded by South
Africa and has become a sort of weekend Soho
for South African whites in search of all the
bad things in life that can offer a good time.
Its become a vital part of Swazilands econ-
omy but politically this tiny kingdom is also at
an interesting stage in its development
Philip Jacobson discovered.
Jane Fonda, famous for her rather rude
role as Barbarella, is not up to anything wicked
in her latest film. Meriel McCooey describes the role and
its as serious and worthy as befits a lady of 40. (We
haven t used photographs of Vanessa Redgrave, her co-star,
so we apologise to her fans. She is also 40 this year).

Dont forget Roger McGough with his Lifespun Philo-
sophy this week on page 24. Weve deliberately not drawn
attention to him so far, letting him infiltrate quietly, but
hes quietly becoming a cult. Well, two schoolgirls have
written in asking if hes real. Cults have to
begin somewhere. |
