The Sunday Times Magazine 26 March 1978
The Turin Shroud: could the claims be true?
This Easter Sunday a large section of the Magazine is given to a subject
which throughout the year will be fascinating and dividing the Christian
world. The Holy Shroud is only rarely produced for public inspection.
But on this, the 400th anniversary of its arrival in Turin, it is not only to
be displayed but a special Congress is to be called which may at last
settle the question: could the shadowy image on the Shroud in fact be
that of Jesus? Author Ian Wilson has been a student of the Shroud for
12 years and has written a new book and film about it. His article reviews
recent scholarship and advances a new theory about its history. And for
the first time pictures of the Shroud are reproduced in colour. Page 20
